How do implants work?
Implants fuse to your jawbone; they provide stable support for your artificial teeth. Dentures & bridges mounted to implants won’t slip or shift in your mouth especially while eating or speaking.
The American Dental Association
considers 2 types of implants to be safe.
Endosteal Implants
These are surgically implanted directly into jawbone. Once the surrounding gum tissue has healed, a 2nd small surgery is needed to connect a post to implant. Finally an artificial tooth is attached to the post or grouped on a bridge or denture.
Subperiosteal Implants
It consists of a metal frame that is filled onto the jawbone just below the gum tissue, as the gums heal; the frame becomes fused to jawbone.
