ROOT CANAL

Endodontic Treatment

Endodontic therapy, also known as endodontic treatment or root canal therapy, is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth
from future microbial invasion. A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.

How Painful is a Root Canal

People often think that root canal is a very painful procedure but its not so.Its a painless procedure and is usually performed under local anaesthesia and it doesn’t pain after the procedure also.
The tooth may feel sensitive due to natural tissue inflammation, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. This sensitivity or discomfort usually can be controlled with over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve). Most patients can return to their normal activities the next day.

Root Canal Prevention

Pulp gets inflamed and infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on a tooth and/or large fillings. Following good oral hygiene practices like brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing and visiting the dentist at least once in six months can reduce the necessity for RCT.
Keep rinsing your mouth after every meal which can avoid sticking of food substances onto the teeth surface.
